Getting into “The Groove”

If you’re struggling to meet your weekly exercise requirements, you may need to change up your routine a bit. You might go to the gym only to see some of the same people on the same machine day after day, but that doesn’t mean you need to fall into the same workout rut in order to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Enter The Groove, a improvosational, care-free and creative workout experience offered at an expanding number of fitness centers country-wide.

Their website describes the class as.. [Shifting] the focus away from follow-the-leader classes to create participant-centered dance classes that focus on creativity, functional physical conditioning, positive body image and authentic mind-body connections so that everyday people can DANCE for the HEALTH of it and start living ridiculously happy and vibrantly healthy lives.

The bottom line: You don’t need to remember any choreography and you can be as creative as you want (or just follow the instructor). Prepare to shake, roll, jump, run, skip, twirl, tag, shimmy or fist pump (if that’s your thing) your way to fitness.  

Your body needs to be challenged! After awhile, the same motion won’t do much for developing your muscles-which are key to preventing injury, feeling empowered and increasing your metabolism.
